Magical Play Clay

  • Prep time:  30 Minutes
  • Total time: 1 Hour

There’s something magical about whipping up your own play clay from scratch. Making your favorite shapes, like shamrocks, add to the fun. Ready, set, dough!

Supplies

  • 1 cup flour
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/4 cup salt
  • 2 tsp cream of tartar
  • 1 Tbsp cooking oil
  • 6-8 drops green food coloring
  • 2-3 drops mint extract
  • Spoon
  • Saucepan
  • Glitter
  • Shamrock cookie cutter

Steps

  1. Mix all the ingredients, except glitter, in a saucepan.
  2. Place saucepan on stovetop and cook over medium heat, stirring often to keep from burning.
  3. When the mixture begins to form a ball (it usually takes a few minutes), remove the clay from the heat.
  4. Let the mixture cool completely and place onto a flat surface.
  5. Flatten the clay and sprinkle the glitter on top. Knead until smooth and the glitter is evenly distributed.
  6. Use the cookie cutter to create shamrock shapes.
  7. Store the play clay in an airtight container.
