Lucky Charms Mailbox

  • Prep time:  5 Minutes
  • Total time:  30 Minutes

Build a mailbox using a Lucky Charms cereal box! This fun DIY project lets everyone in the family personalize their own mailbox to use for receiving notes and small treasures. It’s a charming way to spread some magic around the house.

Supplies

  • 2 empty Lucky Charms cereal boxes
  • Hot glue gun and glue sticks
  • Pencil
  • Scissors
  • Round-head paper fastener
  • Clear tape

Steps

  1. Gather the supplies.
  2. Using one of the Lucky Charms cereal boxes, cut out the front of box while leaving the top and bottom flaps intact. Cut out the back of box panel and then cut the back of box in half.
  3. To create the mailbox arch, place hot glue (can tape on the inside first to help hold together) to the top and bottom flaps of the front panel and adhere to one of the back panel pieces. The front panel will bend during this process. Hold together for 10 to 15 seconds to secure.
  4. Using the mailbox as a template, trace one of the openings onto the other half of the back panel you have not used yet. Cut out the back panel and glue it to the mailbox.
  5. To create the door, you will use the mailbox as a template again. Trace the other mailbox opening onto the second Lucky Charms cereal box. Along the bottom straight edge of your traced door, add about 2” in length to create a hinge for the mailbox door. Cut out and fold along the traced line to create the door hinge. Place glue on the hinge flap and glue to the bottom of the mailbox. Then, fold up the panel to fit the front opening.
  6. Add edging to the door by cutting a 1-inch wide strip from the cereal box. Attach this strip around the curved side of the door using hot glue.
  7. Cut out a flag from the cereal box and attach it to the mailbox with the round-head paper fastener.
